 Where the Rainbow Ends

From the “Omage” series
Oil on canvas, 150 × 100 cm, 2026

In Where the Rainbow Ends, Stefan Stoikov reimagines Hokusai’s The Dream of the Fisherman’s Wife, replacing its octopus with the monstrous presence of Cthulhu/Dagon. The substitution shifts the work from erotic encounter toward an exploration of fear, fascination, and psychological dependence. Set within a vividly green, untamed landscape, the scene evokes something primal and instinctive—the attraction to what frightens us and the adrenaline found in familiar patterns of fear. The rainbow becomes a metaphorical path toward its own “pot of gold”: self-reflection, observation, and the recognition of the fears that quietly shape our behaviour.
