The Banshee’s Scream brings together visual symbols from Eastern and Western mythologies in a deliberately anachronistic composition. At its centre, a Japanese demon mask emerges through flames, confronting the delicate formality of an eighteenth-century women’s blouse. The contrast creates a tension between the ceremonial and the monstrous, the refined and the supernatural.

The work also invokes the Irish banshee, whose legendary scream is traditionally understood as an omen of death. By merging these distinct cultural archetypes, the painting becomes a meeting point of mythological traditions, where fear, ritual, and transformation transcend their cultural origins.
