Necronomicon

From the “Midday Shadow” series
Oil on canvas, 40 × 40 cm, 2026

In Necronomicon, Stefan Stoikov explores the contrast between outward tranquillity and the unseen presence of horror. A serene, almost dreamlike figure emerges from a field of blue, while sharp, gestural lines and the suggestion of an ominous creature introduce a darker psychological dimension. Referencing the mysterious book of occult knowledge repeatedly invoked in the writings of H. P. Lovecraft, the work transforms the Necronomicon into a symbol of concealed fear. Beneath the painting’s quiet surface lies an atmosphere of unease, suggesting that horror need not reveal itself openly—it can remain quietly present, beneath the calm.
