In Girl with Unicorn, Stefan Stoikov reinterprets Raphael’s Girl with a Unicorn through a darker contemporary visual language. The classical figure is displaced into an uncanny world shaped by references to the literary universes of H. P. Lovecraft and Nikolai Gogol. The unicorn, traditionally associated with purity and innocence, becomes part of a more ambiguous encounter between the familiar and the strange. Through the combination of oil and aerosol, Stoikov creates a tension between historical painting and contemporary graphic culture, transforming an iconic Renaissance image into a surreal meditation on identity, fantasy, and the unsettling presence of the unknown.
