Girl with Strange Jewelry

Oil on canvas, 60 × 70 cm, 2025

Girl with Strange Jewelry draws upon the languid figures and exoticised landscapes of Paul Gauguin, while introducing a darker literary dimension through H. P. Lovecraft’s The Shadow over Innsmouth. The unusual jewelry becomes more than an ornament: it functions as a visual metaphor for fear, suggesting how an external object can gradually shape, possess, and transform the person who wears it.

The figure’s quiet, almost dreamlike presence contrasts with the unsettling implication of metamorphosis. Beauty and unease coexist within the composition, turning the jewelry into a symbol of an invisible threat—one that begins subtly, yet ultimately alters the self.
