In Alone, Nikola Pijanmanov reduces the human figure to a solitary presence within an expansive, almost empty field. Positioned at the centre of the composition, the figure appears caught between presence and disappearance, its elongated form contrasting with the horizontal structure that surrounds it.

The sparse setting denies the viewer any clear sense of place or narrative. Instead, the space becomes psychological — a visual representation of isolation rather than simply an absence of other people. The figure is surrounded by traces of structure, yet remains fundamentally separated from it, creating a tension between belonging and detachment.

Pijanmanov’s restrained palette and rough, painterly surface reinforce this sense of emotional distance. The visible marks and muted tones prevent the image from becoming entirely static; beneath its apparent simplicity is a sense of unease, as though the figure is suspended within a moment of introspection.
