Pyramid, 2025

Graphic Pen · 3000 × 3000 px

In Pyramid, Bela Macka constructs a satirical vision of social hierarchy through the interweaving of the food chain, biological structures, and political symbolism. A tiered pyramid places the artist-like figure at its apex, followed by investors, bankers, and governments, then innovators and local councils, with workers and producers forming its broad foundation. Each level is marked by symbols of power, ideology, and material organisation, exposing the contradictions embedded within systems of authority. Those who produce the greatest wealth and resources occupy the lowest position, while those above them consume the results of their labour. Through meticulous linework and intricate, almost diagrammatic figures, Macka challenges conventional ideas of production and consumption, revealing a system in which the apparent consumers may themselves be the most thoroughly consumed.
